The University of Pikeville recorded its first 3-0 win of the season on Saturday morning with a win over Columbia (S.C.) College on their annual Paint Pikeville Pink day.

The Bears picked up the win by scores of 25-10, 25-8, 25-17.

UPike is now 8-9 on the season, 5-1 in the AAC. Columbia slid to 2-14, 2-5.

The Bears were paced by senior Alondre Ayende, who had six kills and four service aces on the offensive side while also recording six digs and a solo block on defense.

Three Bears recorded seven kills to lead the offensive attack. They were seniors Gracie Lovgren and
Theresa Romero and junior
Lanie Hawley, while sophomore
Olivia Chapman joined Ayende with six.

Aspen Braaten followed Ayende with three service aces. Junior
Chloie Brinton led the Bears with 29 assists in the win.

Ashtyn Filkins joined Ayende with six digs on defense. Chapman had a solo block and two block assists, while Hawley was a force at the net with three block assists.

UPike will play its next four matches, all of them AAC contests, on the road, beginning on Tuesday night when it visits Milligan (Tenn.) University for a 6:30 p.m. match.

Bears 25, Koalas 10: After falling behind 4-1 early, UPike went on a seven-point run to move ahead. It began with a kill by Hawley, who then moved to serve the remainder of the run. She recorded a service ace and got a kill from Lovgren as the Bears moved in front 8-4. Leading 11-9, UPike went on an 11-0 run to put the game on ice. Ayende had two service aces while Chapman had a pair of kills.

Bears 25, Koalas 8: A pair of 9-1 runs were the key to the win in the second set. UPike jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second.
Lyla Reed, who served the last seven points of the run, had a service ace while Romero and Ayende recorded two kills each. In the second, Ayende had two service aces and was one of three Bears with a kill to push the lead to 21-4.

Bears 25, Koalas 17: The Bears broke a 2-2 tie with a 6-1 run early in the third set. Lovgren had three kills, while
Aspen Braaten recorded consecutive service aces as the score moved to 8-3. Leading 9-5, the Bears recorded a 6-1 run that included three straight points on two kills and a block assist by Hawley.
