STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The University of Pikeville women's bowling season got off to a solid start, finishing fifth in the 42-team 54th Annual Brunswick Midwest Collegiate Championship.

Bowling at 5 Star Lanes, the site of last year's NAIA championships, the Bears were the top finisher among Mid-South Conference teams in the field.

In the eight-team tournament, the Bears were eliminated 2-1 by No. 4 SCAD-Savannah.

The tournament was the debut of Amber Griffin, the new director of bowling and women's bowling coach.

Victoria Hines got her senior season off to a great start by making the all-tournament team in the 304-bowler individual field. After opening with consecutive 171 games, Hines closed out with scores of 203, 256 and 224 to average 205 and finish fifth.

Brianna Rogers, whose 198.4 average was keyed by an opening game 264 to land her in 13
th place. Sophomore
Katarina Hagler averaged 187.8, posting a fifth-game score of 212.

Kaytlen Peck bowled four games with a total pinfall of 712 to average 178.

The Bears will be back in action October 25-26 when they begin league play. On Saturday, they'll compete in the Music City Classic, followed on Sunday by the Brandon Burns Memorial.
