Brinton named Setter of the Week for fifth time this season

WALESKA, Ga. – University of Pikeville setter Chloie Brinton has been named the AAC Setter of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Brinton won the honor for the fifth time this season, and has been named a player of the week in one of the three categories six times in the 12 weeks the league has announced players of the week.

UPike finished the regular season with two conference matches over the weekend. She had 42 assists in a 3-1 win at Union Commonwealth University on Friday night and followed that with 50 assists in a 3-2 loss at Johnson (Tenn.) on Saturday morning.

For the week, she averaged 10.22 assists per set. She also had 16 digs and a block assist on defense.

Brinton also reached a milestone on Friday when she recorded her 1,000th assist of the season. She is the only player in the conference to reach that total this season, and finished the regular season 140 assists more than the next closest setter.

She is averaging 9.57 assists per set this season.

In addition, Brinton has 318 digs, which is second on the team, and her 26 service aces is third on the club.

The Bears closed the regular season 18-12 overall and 15-4 in the league.

UPike is seeded fourth in this week's AAC volleyball tournament and will open play on Friday afternoon against Brenau (Ga.), the fifth seed, at 4 p.m. The winner of that game advances to Saturday morning's 10 a.m. semifinal match.

The finals are Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

The entire AAC women's volleyball tournament will be played at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
