Warren's career high leads Bears past CIU

 
 
Sophomore Jaaliyah Warren scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half as the University of Pikeville beat Columbia International (S.C.) University on Saturday afternoon at the UPike Gym.
 
Warren was 10 for 17 overall and 8 of 15 from the three-point stripe en route to her career high.
 
The Belfry product had nine of her points, including three of her triples, in the first quarter as UPike built to a 25-11 lead. The score was 48-26 at the break.
 
UPike is now 2-1 on the season and one of three AAC teams standing 2-0 after the first weekend of league play.
 
Freshman Sophie Adkins joined Warren in double digits with 13 points, going 3 of 6 from the arc.
 
Senior Allie Stone scored 12 points, and for the second straight game moved up on the scoring list. The Olive Hill product passed her neighbor, Grayson native Teccoa Gallion, to move into seventh place on the scoring list. She also had six assists. 
 
She is now 39 points out of sixth place.
 
The Bears finished the game 35 for 76 (46.1 percent) from the floor, making 15 of 39 (38.5 percent) from the arc. They also made 7 of 9 free throws.
 
The Rams had one player in double digits, getting 12 from freshman Katie Johnson to go with four rebounds.
 
CIU (1-5, 0-1) was 21 of 55 (38.2 percent) overall. It did shoot well from the arc, going 6 for 11, but was only 7 of 12 from the line.
 
UPike won the rebounding battle 41-37, thanks to nine from freshman Halle Collins. Freshman Savannah Jarvis, who played only 10 minutes, had six boards, three off the offensive glass.
 
UPike will be on the road on Wednesday night, traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., to play Johnson University. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
