WBB puts 5 in double digits in win at Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Coach Clifton Williams and the University of Pikeville women's basketball team put five players in double figures and ran its win streak to three in a 79-57 win over Johnson University on Wednesday night.

The win was the first on the road this season for the Bears, and all three games in the winning stretch have come against AAC competition.

UPike got 16 points and 10 rebounds from senior guard Allie Stone, while freshman Halle Collins tossed in 15 points while pulling down 11 rebounds.

For Stone, last season's conference player of the year, it was the first time in her career she's had double figure rebounds in a game. It was also the first career double-double for Collins.

Junior Rachel Bush had a season-best 14 points to go with six rebounds. She also had two assists, two steals and blocked a shot. Freshman Anika Stehbens scored 13 and grabbed four rebounds.

Sophomore Jaaliyah Warren, the current offensive player of the week in the conference, finished with 11 points on 3 for 4 shooting on three-point shots. Through four games this season, Warren is averaging 4.3 made three-point shots per game and hitting them at a 54.8 percent rate.

UPike (3-1, 3-0 in the AAC) led 23-15 after one period and pushed the advantage to 43-28 by halftime. A third-quarter advantage of 21-10 gave the Bears a comfortable 64-38 edge with 10 minutes to play.

Freshman guard Jadyn Cooper had a game-high 23 points to lead the Royals. Freshman Gibson Boykin scored 11 to join her in double digits.

UPike will remain on the road on Saturday when it travels to play Montreat (N.C.) College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
