SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Pikeville women's basketball team remained unbeaten in the AAC with a 76-67 win over Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears picked up the win on a day they shot better from the arc than the field and went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line.

UPike (6-3 overall, 6-0 in the league) shot 41.8 percent overall but hit 42.9 percent on three-point tries, nailing 12 of 28.

Spartanburg Methodist is now 4-6 on the season but winless in five conference games.

With only eight available players, junior
Rachel Bush stepped up but with her first double double of the season. The Greenup product scored 20 points and pulled down a dozen rebounds, shooting seven of UPike's free throws in the win.

Even with only three players coming off the bench, UPike outscored the Pioneers 29-19 in that category. Sophomore
Hazley Matthews came in to toss in 19 points while dishing out three assists.

Jaaliyah Warren shot 5 of 8 on three-point shots and finished with 17 points and four rebounds.
Kyra McAlarnis had eight points and handed out a game-high seven assists.

The Bears turned it up on defense, holding the Pioneers to only 34.4 percent from the floor.

Like the Bears, Spartanburg Methodist put three players in double figures, led by senior guard Halle Traylor with 20 points. She also dished out five assists.

Senior Destiny Middleton followed with 18 points while grabbing six rebounds. Sophomore Krystal Johnson scored 12 points and had seven rebounds.

UPike return home on Wednesday when it hosts Milligan (Tenn.) University. The game, scheduled for the UPike Gym, will begin at 5:30 p.m.
