Track & Field sets new personal, school, and meet records at Marshall Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - University of Pikeville men's and women's track and field opened their 2025-26 season setting multiple personal, school, and meet records at the Marshall Opener hosted by Marshall University Saturday.  

Zeke Hagley, who was an All-American in 2024-25, qualified for the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Nationals in the weight throw after throwing a 17.59m, placing first and setting a record for the meet. Hagley has now qualified for nationals in each of his three years at UPike.  

Alex Rogers also set a new personal best in the weight throw after recording a 15.54m toss. Rogers also set a new personal record in the shot put after throwing 12.97m. Newcomer Wyatt Fielder also set new personal records in the weight throw and shot put.  

The UPike jumps squad saw multiple school records fall. Alex Harris, in his first collegiate meet, set new school records in the long jump and triple jump. Harris's numbers in the long jump and triple jump were 6.10m and 13.27m, respectively. Junior jumper Zack Mason also set a new personal best in the triple jump with 13.02. Harris finished sixth in the triple jump and Mason finished one spot behind. Mason finished out the day with a seventh-place finish in the high jump after recording a new school record of 1.90m.  

The UPike sprints team showed out on the men's side and the women's side. On the women's side, junior Faith Newsom set two new personal bests in the 400m and 200m with times of 1:01.68 and 26.77, respectively. Newsom also ran a 8.36 in the 60m, her best time in two years.  

Carlie Osborne took sixth in the 400m after running a 1:01.34, a new personal best. Osborne also set a new personal best in the 200m. Kylie Hall also set a pair of new personal bests in the 60m and 200m. Laiken Harris ran 9.53 in the 60m and 32.69 in the 200m, both personal records. Hailey Little rounded out the women's sprints highlights with a new personal best in the 800m with a time of 3:13.07.  

In the men's sprints, Joshua Martinez won the 800m and set a new school record with a time of 1:59.28. Newcomer JayQwan Walker set new personal records in the 60m hurdles and 400m dash. Trenton Terry, along with Payton Combs, set personal bests in the 400m dash. Combs also secured a personal best in the 200m. The meet ended with Zach Mason, who already broke one personal record and a school record, setting a new personal best in the 200m with a time of 25.96.  

The Bears finished the meet having set 24 new personal records, four school records, one meet record, and had one qualifier for NAIA Nationals.  

A small group will be traveling to Bloomington, Ind., next Friday for the Indiana Early Bird Meet hosted by Indiana University. The rest of the track and field Bears will be back in action in Huntington, W.Va., for the Marshall Alumni Classic hosted by Marshall University.
