BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The bowling programs of the University of Pikeville began postseason play by taking the championships of both the men's and women's Mid-South Conference tournaments this weekend at Southern Lanes.

For the women, it was their third straight MSC tournament title.

The men won the tournament by taking the decisive seventh round over Tennessee Wesleyan University 4-0. They won by scores of 236-155, 207-191, 266-233 and 196-179.

The final round was forced after the Bulldogs won the sixth round 4-2.

The women's final was a little more convincing, as the Bears knocked off No. 1 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) University 4-3. The scores were 168-189, 168-152, 231-183, 160-161, 130-193, 216-159 and 179-176.

The top-seeded men opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over No. 8 Union Commonwealth University. They won by scores of 208-214, 211-183, 206-173, 204-160, 173-226 and 214-147.

That set up a second-round matchup with No. 5 Cumberlands (Ky.), which they won 4-2. The scores were 205-231, 229-169, 197-147, 202-132, 161-188 and 204-158.

In the finals of the winner's bracket, the Bears met No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan for the first time in the tournament, coming away with a 4-2 win. They won 212-161, 192-211, 201-209, Â 237-220, 214-162 and 276-193.

The second-seeded women's bowling team opened the tournament with a 4-0 in over No. 7 Union Commonwealth. The scores were 246-125, 157-155, 199-146 and 172-97.

They followed that with a 4-3 win over No. 3 Midway by scores of 159-209, 169-182, 163-148, 212-185, 165-175, 195-188 and 185-131. In the third round, the Bears beat No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-1. The scores were 153-126,164-157, 169-188, 180-152 and 178-164.
