BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The men's bowling program at the University of Pikeville brought home several awards and honors from last week's Mid-South Conference bowling championships, in addition to winning the tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Andrew Dekowski was named the Coach of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Dekowski took the honor in his first season as head coach of the men's bowling program after being named the league's assistant coach of the year three times.
The Bears had three first-team all-conference bowlers and one on the second-team.
Graduate student
Bryce Oliver, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, sophomore Joshus Maslanich, of North Royalton, Ohio, and senior
Chris LeSueur of Kent, Ohio, were all named to the first team.
LeSueur was the team's representative on the Champions of Character team. Students on it are honored for their dedication to the five core character values the NAIA embraces: Respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
Andrew Robitaille, a freshman from Pittsfield, Mass., was named to the second team.
Prior to the start of the tournament, the league crowned champions in singles and doubles competitions. UPike took both honors.
Eli Mayberry, a junior from Mechanicsburg, Ohio, and graduate student
Bryce Oliver won the doubles title, finishing with a score of 1389. The team of Maslanich and Robitaille finished tied for second with a score of 1378.
The singles tournament was also kind to Mayberry, as he finished second with a score of 772.
The Mid-South Conference also announced that 40 men's bowlers were named Academic All-Conference, and UPike posted a league-leading 13 of those.
