Bears sink free throws, Rams, 80-72

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The University of Pikeville ran its win streak to five with an 80-72 win over homestanding Bluefield (Va.) University on Wednesday night.
 
In doing so, the Bears picked up their 20th win of the season compared to only four losses. It marks the third straight season they have won at least 20 games.
 
While they shot respectfully, hitting 43.6 percent overall and making 11 three-point baskets, the Bears won the game at the free throw line, where they sank 21 of 23 shots.
 
Three juniors led the way for the Bears on Wednesday.
 
Keynan Cutlip led the way with 23 points. He hit 8 for 10 overall and 5 of 6 from the arc in scoring the most points since posting a career-high 28 against Virginia-Lynchburg on Dec. 16.
 
Bradley Bunch followed with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. LA Walker added 14 for the Bears.
 
Junior Tyler Best scored five points but pulled down six rebounds and led the team with four assists.
 
Junior guard Elijah White led all scorers with 26 for the Rams. He hit four of his team's eight three-pointers on the night while pulling down three rebounds and handing out three assists.
 
Seniors Quantavis McKinney and Donovan Martin had 15 points each for Bluefield. The both also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.
 
Bluefield, which lost for the fourth straight game and fell to 5-16 overall and 5-11 in the league, outrebounded the Bears 39-31.
 
UPike will be on the road again on Saturday, playing Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tenn. Game time will be 4 p.m.
