PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – The University of Pikeville competed the four-game weekend sweep of Cleary (Mich.) University, on Saturday, winning 6-5 and 9-2.

UPike improved to 5-2 on the season, having won five straight games. They begin league play on Friday at 3 p.m. when they visit Columbia International (S.C.) University for a weekend series.

Bears 6, Cougars 5 (8 innings): Right fielder
William Kelley hit a line-drive single to center to score
Austin Gurney in the bottom of the eighth to give the Bears a win in the opener.

The Bears loaded the bases with one out before Kelley's heroics. Kelley had three hits and two RBIs in the win. Leadoff hitter
Riley Paulino had a double and drove in two as well.

Garren Gledhill had a pair of hits and scored twice. Gurney, who reached on an error in the eighth, scored twice as well.

Isaac Berry (2-0) pitched the eighth to get the win.

Bears 9, Cougars 2: Junior
Kameron Brodeur went the distance as the Bears powered their way to the four-game sweep in a seven-inning win.

Paulino and first baseman
Joe Gagnon hit home runs in the win. Paulino's blast was part of a two-hit day where he drove in three and scored twice, while Gagnon's blast was a three-run shot.

Gurney singled and doubled and scored twice, while catcher
Tanner Gerosa had two hits.

Brodeur (2-0) scattered seven hits, striking out six.
