KINGSPORT, Tenn. - University of Pikeville men's and women's swimming competed at the 2025 AAC Championships this weekend.
Thursday:
The team of RJ Goins, Jacob Rubado, Bryce Barton, and Benjamin Mclaughlan opened the tournament with a fourth-place finish in the 200-medley relay. In the men's 500-freestyle, Goins scored seven team points after taking tenth. Ryder Slone added three more team points in the 200 individual medley. On the women's side, Madelyn Smith scored three team points after swimming a 6:20.69 in the 500-freestyle.
Friday:
Rubado, Slone, Zane Whitaker, and Mclaughlan opened day two with a third-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. In the 100-butterfly, Barton swam a 1:04.63. In the 100-breastroke, Goins and Rubado finished ninth and tenth, respectively. Mclaughlin, Whitaker, Barton, and Ryder all swam within eight seconds of each other and finished ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth in the men's backstroke.
On the women's side, Smith finished ninth in the 100-breaststroke. In the 100-backstroke, Daylin Patrick swam a 1:19.36 and came in fourteenth. After two days of competition, the men's team had 117 team points and the women's team had 15 team points.
Saturday:
Barton opened Saturday with a 2:22.88 in the men's 200-backstroke. The final event on the men's side for the Bears was the 100-freestyle. In the 100-free, McLaughlan swam a 51.49 and finished twelfth, Rubado finished one spot behind McLaughlan after swimming a 53.92, and Whitaker came in fourteenth after recording a time of 56.11. Smith and Patrick finished fourteenth and fifteenth, respectively, in the women's 100-freestyle.
The men's team finished the AAC Championships with 140 total team points and the women's team finished with 20 total team points. With this weekend's results, UPIKE swimming's 2024-25 season comes to a close.
