PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Bears baseball ended a three-game AAC series with the Milligan Buffaloes with a 17-6 loss at Johnnie LeMaster Field Saturday afternoon.
UPIKE jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Garren Gledhill came through with a two-out, two-run double. Gledhill has hits it four consecutive games. The Bears' lead proved to be short-lived, however, as the Buffaloes hung seven runs in the top of the second and then plated six more in the third.
In the fourth, UPIKE got three runs back. Gledhill led it off with an infield single, then got into scoring position after a wild pitch. Francis Subero reached base with an infield single one batter later. With runners on the corners and one out, William Kelley homered to cut Milligan's lead to 13-5. The Bears added one more run in the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Hunter Ferguson.
Milligan would end up run-ruling the Bears after scoring three in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Buffaloes won the game 17-6 and won the series 2-1. The Bears struggled mightily on defense, committing five errors and walking seven batters.
Offensively, Gledhill led UPIKE with three hits, followed by Austin Gurney with two. Kelley led the Bears with three RBIs and Gledhill was second with two.
The Bears record dips to 12-13 (7-8 AAC) following Saturday's loss to Milligan. Coach Cody Andreychuk will travel west on the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway Tuesday for a game against the Georgetown College Tigers. First pitch between the Bears and Tigers is set for 3:00 p.m.
