BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville softball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Union Commonwealth University.

The Bulldogs won the opener 11-3 and the finale 8-7.

UPike, 10-9 overall and 4-4 in the AAC, will be back in action on Thursday afternoon when it plays host to Rainhardt (Ga.) University. The first game is scheduled for a 2 pm. First pitch.

Bulldogs 11, Bears 3: UPike jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Union scored twice in the second and seven more in the third.

The Bears were limited to only three singles in the loss. Right fielder
Sydney Stout, shortstop
Sam Case and second baseman
Kaden Dunlap had them.

Three Bears pitchers appeared in the game, with starter
Brianna Johnsen (4-4) taking the decision.

Bulldogs 8, Bears 7: Union posted six runs in the third before both teams scored twice in the fourth. UPike put up five in the fifth to get within a run, but that was the end of the scoring in the game.

Second baseman
Emma Muncy had three hits for the Bears and scored a run. Case,
Harlee Quick and
Chloe Calton had two hits each. Case and Quick both had a double and scored a run, while Calton scored a run and drove in two.

Caden Dunlap doubled while
Dani Crum,
Maddie Horn and
Maria McClellan all singled. Crum had two RBI, Horn scored twice and McClellan sent one run home.
Madison Mullins had an RBI as well.

Rylee Carter (4-5) started a pitched the first three innings.
Sara Bays threw the final three.
