STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - UPIKE men's bowling dropped their opening match 4-3 to No. 9 Kansas Wesleyan in round one of the 2025 NAIA Men's Bowling National Championship
Game 1: Kansas Wesleyan 187, UPIKE 185
Andrew Robitaille eight spared to open the match, then Wesley Yazell struck. Blake Hisle eight spared, then Eli Mayberry and Bryce Oliver struck to open the front five.
Robitaille and Yazell nine spared, Hisle struck, and then Mayberry and Oliver left frames nine and ten open. The Coyotes struck back late and took game one.
Game 2: UPIKE 262, Kansas Wesleyan 188
Game two opened with three straight strikes from Robitaille, Yazell, and Hisle. Mayberry nine spared and Oliver struck to close out the front five.
All five Bears struck in frames six through ten and the Bears knotted the series up at 1-1.
Game 3: Kansas Wesleyan 211, UPIKE 209
The Coyotes re-took their series lead in game three by edging out the Bears, just like they did in game one.
Game 4: UPIKE 243, Kansas Wesleyan 175
After an opening strike by Robitaille, Yazell overcame a first shot three with a spare. The Bears struck five in a row after Yazell/s three spare. Hisle seven spared, Mayberry struck, and then Oliver capped it off with a strike and an eight.
Game 5: UPIKE 214, Kansas Wesleyan 208
Robitaille struck in frame one and Yazell recorded a nine in the second. After a six spare by Hisle in the third, the next four frames went strike by Mayberry, strike by Oliver, strike by Robitaille, and nine spare by Yazell.
Hisle shot a nine in the eighth, Mayberry struck, and Oliver struck three consecutive times to give the Bears a 214-208 win in game five.
Game 6: Kansas Wesleyan 268, UPIKE 184
Robitaille, , Dylan Mishak, and Joshua Maslanich spared in frames one through three. Mayberry struck in the fourth, and then Oliver nine spared to close out the front five.
Robitaille shot an eight in the sixth, then Maslanich, Hisle, and Mayberry recorded back-to-back strikes and Oliver dropped eight in the tenth. The Coyotes struck early and often and sent their series to a seventh game.
Game 7: Kansas Wesleyan 198, UPIKE 194
Robitaille struck to open game seven and then Dylan Mishak nine spared. Maslanich struck, Mayberry eight spared, and then Oliver struck in the fifth.
Robitaille struck for the second time in as many throws, then Mishak shot a nine. Maslanich struck, and then Mayberry and Oliver nine spared to end the match. The Coyotes would take game seven and take the series 4-3.
The Bears are still alive in the tournament but are now in the consolation bracket. The Bears will face the loser of match eight between No. 2 Indiana Tech and No. 7 Marian.
