LAS VEGAS – The University of Pikeville men's bowling team advanced on Friday morning with a 4-2 win over Calumet (Ind.) in the 2025 Intercollegiate Team Championships at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
Â
The win moved the Bears into the fifth round where they will play Mount Mercy (Iowa) University. That match is set to begin at 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific.
Â
UPike rolled 31 strikes in the win, led by junior
Eli Mayberry, who had nine strikes and three spares in his dozen frames. Graduate student
Bryce Oliver had eight strikes while sophomore
Josh Maslanich added seven.
Â
Game 1: Calumet opened with four straight strikes and posted seven in a 216-169 win to open the match. The Bears had consecutive open frames and managed only three strikes, two by graduate student
Dylan Mishak.
Â
Game 2: It was a different story in Game 2, as the Bears struck 10 times in a 278-171 win. All five starters struck to open the match, as senior
Blake Hisle, Maslanich, Mayberry and Oliver had two each in the win.
Â
Game 3: The Bears took a 2-1 lead in the series with a 184-175 win. Oliver was solid as usual, striking both times to pace the team.
Â
Game 4: UPike picked up its third win in the series with a 230-213 win over the Crimson Wave. Oliver struck both frames for the third straight game, while Mayberry had a pair as well.
Â
Game 5: The Crimson Wave rebounded for a 201-165 win to stay alive in the series and season. UPike again got two strikes from Mayberry, who was in the midst of closing out the match with seven unanswered strikes.
Â
Game 6: Four straight strikes early and at the end sealed the deal for the Bears in a 223-210 win. It got dicey late, but the Bears took advantage of an open ninth frame thanks to a strike by Mayberry in the ninth. That set up Oliver, who struck out to seal the win.
