Bears fall at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The University of Pikeville traveled to play longtime foe Georgetown College on Tuesday, dropping both ends of a softball doubleheader.

The Tigers won the opener 11-1 before rallying in the finale for a 10-7 win.

UPike is now finished with the nonconference portion of the schedule barring a makeup, and will be back home to host Columbia International (S.C.) University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

It will also serve as Senior Day for the team, with that ceremony set for between games.

Tigers 11, Bears 1: Georgetown jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and added six more in the fourth.

The only run of the game for the Bears came on a third-inning solo home run off the bat of freshman first baseman Chloe Calton.

UPike had six hits in the game, with catcher Dani Crum delivering a double and a triple. Centerfielder Addison Johnson, designated player Harlee Quick and third baseman Claudia Maness each having a single.

Tigers 10, Bears 7: UPike built a 6-0 lead after two trips to the plate, but Georgetown rallied with a pair of runs in each of the second and third, single tallies in the fourth and fifth and finally taking the lead with a four-run sixth.

Crum continued her torrid pace at the plate, delivering two hits, including a double, driving in two and scoring three times. Johnson had a single, double and two RBIs.

Second baseman Emma Muncy singled and drove in a run, while Maness, shortstop Sam Case and left fielder Maria McClellan all singled and scored. First baseman Haleigh Jones scored and drove in a run.
