KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Top-seeded Reinhardt (Ga.) University made the most of the four hits allowed by the University of Pikeville, knocking off the Bears 4-1 in the WinWon AAC baseball tournament at Hunter Wright Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

UPike managed 10 hits in the game, but couldn't find the timely one as it slipped to 27-21 on the season.

The Bears will return to action on Thursday morning in the tournament with a rematch against the team they beat on Tuesday morning, Columbia International (S.C.) University, at 9 a.m.

UPike has won three of four against the Rams on the season.

The Eagles scored single runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, second baseman Louis Dion tripled to the gap in right center and scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Nash Crowell.

In the second, designated hitter Jacob Mantooth was hit by a pitch and scored when the Bears turned a double play to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, the Bears couldn't get the clutch hit. They had two hits in each of the first three innings but couldn't push a run home.

In the fourth, though, they broke through when first baseman
Joe Gagnon doubled to right center and scored on a single to center by centerfielder
Riley Paulino to make it 2-1.

The Eagles, however, plated two runs in the sixth inning when they drew back-to-back bases loaded hit by pitches to make it 4-1.

The seventh-inning stretch wound up lasting a while, as it included a 1:08 lightning delay. Once play resumed, neither team managed ant offense and the game ended a mere 26 minutes later.

Three Bears enjoyed multiple-hit games. Revolt, Brooks and Gagnon all had two hits each, with Brooks and Gagnon having a double each.

Francis Subero,
Tanner Gerosa and Paulino all had a hit apiece.

Shaye McTavish (4-6) pitched the first six innings, giving up three hits while striking out two.
Caleb Morrison pitched the two innings after the delay, striking out one while allowing one hit.
