HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - University of Pikeville men's and women's cross country opened their 2025 seasons at the Thundering Herd Invitational hosted by Marshall University Friday evening.
On the men's side, Kelvin Kurgat had UPike's highest finish, coming in 25th place with a time of 16:22.31. Newcomer Joshua Martinez came in 33rd after setting a new personal-best 17.02.22. Bruce Coleman finished with a time of 19:49.61 and Carter Hamilton rounded out the Bears' times after clocking a 23:10.94.
Michelle Kemboi had the best time on the women's side, recording a time of 26:56.27. Finishing one spot behind Kemboi was freshman Morgan Tuttle with a time of 28:26.92. Jasmine Meade came in 31:20.20. Ali Cantrell, Ryleigh Absher, and Shelby Stump rounded out the results on the women's side with back-to-back-to-back finishes.
"Opening up against division one and highly ranked NAIA programs is a tough task, but our squad performed well! With several all-time personal best and two of the fasted 5k times in UPike men's history. A great opener, looking forward to Midway in three weeks," said Head Coach Anthony Kowalczyk.
Next up for the cross-country Bears is the Midway University XC Invitational on September 19th in Midway, Ky.
