WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Pikeville has repeated the honor of special teams player of the week in the AAC, although this time for a completely different purpose.
Â
Levi Evans, a 6-2, 237-pound sophomore from Kingsport, Tenn., won the honor for his work on punts.
Â
He was honored alongside Jovari Gamble, the offensive player of the week, and Chase Hall, the winner of the defensive honor, both of Kentucky Christian University.
Â
Evans had two blocked punts, one a tip, in Saturday's game against Cumberland (Tenn.) University. Not only did he record them but also, they were the first blocks of his collegiate career.
Â
His win comes one week after placekicker
Isaac Smith won the honor for the Bears, thanks to scoring 10 points, nailing two field goals and going 4 of 4 on extra points.
Â
Evans led the Bears with eight tackles on Saturday, five of them solos. He had 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack as well.
Â
On the season, Evans is the leading tackler on the team with 18, and of those he also has a team-best 13 solo tackles. He has recorded 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks on the season and two quarterback hurries.
Â
UPike will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to NCAA Div. III Maryville (Tenn.) College to play the Scots. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
