CINCINNATI, Ohio – University of Pikeville men's and women's track and field competed in the MoJoe Invite hosted by Mount St. Joseph University Saturday.
Zeke Hagley took second in the weight throw with a 17.11m throw. Alex Rogers threw a new personal-best 16.12m throw and finished fifth. Matthew Edwards came in ninth and set a new personal record. Elsewhere in the weight throw, Bradley Henson, Adam Wooton, Wyatt Fielder,and DeVonte Gordon all set personal records.
In the shot put, Hagley threw a season-best 15.23m, scoring eight team points and finishing third in the event. Rogers came in sixth place, and Edwards came in seventh and recorded a new personal best with a 13.52m toss.
UPike had two new personal records set in the men's 3000m run. Kelvin Kurgat came in fifth place with a time of 9:32.64. Kurgat's mark in the 3000m was also a school record. Rylen Rash also set a new personal best, coming in 12th place with a time of 10:29.51.
Giovanni Jones set a pair of new personal bests in the 60m and 200m dashes. Jones ran a 7.61 in the 60m, then sprinted a 25.01 in the 200m. JayQuan Walker also set a new personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 24.29.
Rounding out the highlights on the men's side was the 4x400 team. Joshua Martinez, Jones, Gunter Young, and Walker won the event with a school record time of 3:38.53.
On the women's side, Carlie Osborne came in sixth place in the 60m dash. Osborne recorded a time of 8.64, a new personal record. Osborne also came in second place in the 200m dash. Also in the 200m, Sierra Allen came in fifth place with a time of 29.04, tying a personal record.
In the women's field events, Lauren Mann came in eighth in the long jump with a mark of 3.85m. In the high jump, Abigail McPherson came in sixth place with a mark of 1.35m, a new personal best.
The track and field Bears will be back in action next weekend in Huntington, W.Va., for the Marshall Jewel City Invite hosted by Marshall University.
