HUNTINGTON, W.Va., - University of Pikeville men's and women's track and field took part in a two-day meet, the Marshall Jewel City Invite hosted by Marshall University this weekend.
On Friday,
Zack Mason got the meet started with a mark of 1.93m in the high jump that landed him in fourth place. Mason's mark was a new school record, personal record, and was the highest mark of any non-Division I competitor in the event.
In the shot put,
Zeke Hagley took third place after throwing a season-best 15.76m.
Alex Rogers threw a lifetime-best 14.35m and finished ninth. Also throwing lifetime bests in the shot put were
Matthew Edwards who threw a 13.97m,
Bradley Henson who threw a 10.06m, and Devonte Gordon who threw a 9.63m.
Friday's track events saw
Kelvin Kurgat and
Rylen Rash set new lifetime bests in the 5000m. Kurgat ran a 16:01.90 and came in 13
th place while Rash ran a 18:13.44.
Lauren Mann and
Abigail McPherson competed in the long jump and high jump events, respectively.
On Saturday,
Alex Harris, along with Mason, made finals in the triple jump. Harris recorded a jump of 12.70m and finished sixth while Mason jumped a 12.35m and came in eighth.
Hagley was invited to compete in an elite weight throw event and came in eighth with a 16.75m toss. The rest of the throws team would compete in an open weight throw event. Rogers led with a third-place finish with a 15.89m toss.
Henson threw 12.96m, which qualified him for the AAC Conference Championships. Gordon, Edwards,
Aaron Coffey,
Adam Wooton, and
Wyatt Fielder all threw new lifetime bests in the weight throw.
In the one-mile run,
Joshua Martinez set a new school record with a time of 4:33.71.
Bruce Coleman and
Carter Hamilton both set lifetime bests in the event as well.
On the women's side,
Carlie Osborne set a new school record in the 400m with a time of 1:00.03.
Faith Newsom ran a 1:06.10 and
Kylie Hall ran a lifetime best 1:06.71. The meet ended with the 4x400 team of Newsom,
Morgan Tuttle, Hall, and Osborne setting a new school record with a time of 4:38.42.
The track and field Bears will be back in action next weekend when a small squad will travel to Danville, Ky., for the Centre Indoor Invite & Multis hosted by Centre College.
