Bears sweep Columbia

 
 
 
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Pikeville wrapped up a week in South Carolina with a doubleheader sweep of Columbia College on Saturday afternoon.
 
UPike is now 13-7 on the season and 3-5 in AAC play. The Bears were 10-2 on the week. The Koalas are now 14-10 overall, 2-6 in the league.
 
The Bears are off now until Friday when they're scheduled to host Bluefield (Va.) University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
 
Bears 7, Koalas 1: UPike took a 1-0 lead into the seventh before scoring six runs in the final frame.
 
The Bears scored seven on only six hits, all but one of them singles. The exception was a two-run triple off the bat of Kaden Dunlap in the seventh. She also scored a run.
 
Shortstop Alexis Emery, first baseman Claudia Maness and third baseman Ashlyn Dixon had hits, with each driving in a run and scoring one. Catcher Dani Crum and centerfielder Addison Johnson had hits and scored. Right fielder Maddie Horn and left fielder Harlee Quick each drove in runs.
 
Chloe Bryant (4-2) went the distance for the Bears in the circle. She struck out seven and allowed only four hits.
 
Bears 8, Koalas 2: The Bears scored five times in the second inning, added two more in the fourth and one in the seventh to cruise to the win in the nightcap.
 
Crum had another big game, recording two singles and a double while scoring two and driving in two. Dunlap had two hits, scored and drove one in while Johnson had two more hits.
 
Horn had a hit, scored twice and drove one in, while Dixon had a hit, scored and drove one in. Emery had a hit and an RBI, while Sydney Stout had  a hit and scored. Olivia Metcalfe scored a run.
 
Brianna Johnsen pitched 6-1/3 innings to improve to 4-2 on the season. She struck out three. Chloe Calton got the final two outs.
