MONTREAT, N.C. – The University of Pikeville women's tennis team was in action on Thursday, dropping a 5-2 decision to Montreat College.

The teams split a pair of doubles matches, with the Cavaliers taking four of the five singles points.

The action began with doubles play. At No. 1, the team of seniors
Elizabeth Davis and
Natalia Geraldine Salinas won a very tight match over Catalina Pan and Clara Roman 7-6 (8-6).

At No. 2, UPike's freshman
Grace Clark and junior
Teegan Carpenter fell to Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza 6-2 to even the score at 1-1.

UPike won the No. 1 singles point when Salinas beat Roman 6-1, 6-2.

The final four points, however, went to the Cavs. Pam defeated Carpenter 6-1, 6-2; Cuiza knocked off Davis 6-1, 6-0; Horvacki beat Clark 6-0, 6-0; and Kathryn Salazar won over senior
Alondra Ayende 6-2, 6-1.

The Bears return to the courts on Friday afternoon, hosting Tennessee Wesleyan University. They'll begin play at 2 p.m. at Bob Amos Park.
