KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville finished its weekend series at No. 5 Johnson University on Saturday, losing by identical 7-1 scores.

The Bears have played six straight games against Top 5 teams in the country and have gone a respectable 2-4.

The Bears are now 14-11 on the season, 7-8 in league play. They will return to Johnnie LeMaster Field on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Midway University. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Game 1: Johnson scored three times in the first and twice in the sixth en route to a 6-0 lead and 7-1 win.

UPike scored its only run in the eighth. It came with two outs when right fielder
Riley Paulino reached on an error to score
Matthew Crum. He was on to run for first baseman
Joe Gagnon, who led off with a single.

Six different players had hits for the Bears. Paulino, left fielder
Noah Brooks, designated hitter
Garren Gledhill, third baseman
Mason Melton and second baseman
Easton Mould joined Gagnon with hits.

Kameron Brodeur (3-1) pitched the first five innings for the Bears. He was followed by
Dawson Schultz for the final three frames.

Game 2: UPike scored a run in the third to tie the game, but the Royals pushed across five in the fourth and added an insurance tally in the sixth for another 7-1 win.

In the third, designated hitter
Samuel Brown reached on a leadoff single to right center. He moved to second on a passed ball and scored when Mould reached on a fielder's choice and an error.

Five of UPike's seven hits came from the top third of the order. Mould had a single and a double, Brooks had two hits and Paulino one.

Melton added a double.

Shaye McTavish (2-2) struck out five in 3-2/3 innings.
Tyler Trim followed him for 1-1/3 and struck out three, with Karter Anderson pitching the seventh and struck out two.
