Baseball runs streak to seven

 
 
 
The University of Pikeville scored in every inning from the second through the sixth and rolled to a 12-6 win over Shawnee State (Ohio) University on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The win improved the Bears to 10-4 on the season and ran their win streak to seven games.
 
Shawnee State fell to 11-4 and saw a five-game winning streak come to an end.
 
After allowing SSU four runs in the top of the first, the Bears pushed five across in the second. After a single run scored in the third, UPike scored four more times in the fourth before adding single runs in the fifth and sixth.
 
Four Bears drove in multiple runs and three had multiple hits and runs scored. Designated hitter Riley Paulino had two hits, including a double, drove in two and scored, with Easton Mould recording two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
 
Left fielder Noah Brooks had a single, a double and scored three times.
 
Center fielder Dominic DeCarlo scored twice and drove in a run without the benefit of a hit. Samuel Brown had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored, while Joe Gagnon scored twice.
 
Third baseman Mason Melton had a hit, a run and an RBI, with catcher Garren Gledhill recording a double and two RBIs. Right fielder Cole Fowler drove in a run.
 
Isaac Berry came on in the second inning and threw three innings to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. He was the second of six pitchers to work on the day.
 
Shawnee State used nine pitchers, none of them recording more than three outs. Trent Tice, the second of the day, got the decision (0-1).
 
UPike will return to AAC play on Friday, and a light shakeup of the schedule. The Bears and Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) University will play two games that day, starting at noon at Johnnie LeMaster Field.
 
They'll finish the series with a single game on Saturday, also beginning at noon.
