NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Pikeville opened a big week of play with a pair of wins to start spring break.

UPike opened the day with a 13-0 win over Penn State Altoona and closed it with an 8-4 decision over Bridgewater State (Mass.) University. Junior
Maddie Horn had five hits, drove in five and scored four times.

 The Bears are now 5-5 on the season and will return to the field on Sunday, playing the United States Coast Guard Academy at 10 a.m. before playing Penn State Schuylkill at 2 p.m.

Bears 13, Lions 0, 5 innings: After opening up a 3-0 lead in the first, UPike busted out with nine in the third and another tally in the fourth.

Maddie Horn led the Bears on offense with two hits, including a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored. Starting catcher
Dani Crum had a pair of hits and scored twice.

Kasey Lois came off the bench with a double and an RBI. Center fielder
Addison Johnson had a hit and scored twice. Freshman
Cate Salyers had a hit, an RBI and scored one, while left fielder
Harlee Quick had a hit and drove one in.

Chloe Calton had a hit and two RBIs, while third baseman
Ashlyn Dixon had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Brianna Johnsen improved to 2-2 on the season, throwing all five innings. She struck out eight and scattered four hits.

UPike 8, Bridgewater State 4: UPike used another big inning, this time a six-run fifth, to pull out another win.

Horn came up big again with three more hits, one of them a double. She had an RBI and scored a run. First baseman
Claudia Maness had a single, a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while shortstop
Alexis Emery had two hits, two RBIs and a run.

Johnson had a hit and scored twice, while Quick had a hit and a run scored. Lois singled, scored and drove in one, while Crum added another hit.

Rylee Carter got the start and pitched three innings.
Chloe Bryant pitched the final four innings to get the win and is now 2-2 on the season. She had eight strikeouts and allowed only two hits.
