BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The University of Pikeville tennis teams were on the road on Thursday, visiting Bluefield State University.

The men picked up a 4-3 win over the NCAA Div. II Big Blue, while the women lost 6-1.

It'll be a quick turnaround for the teams, as they visit Shawnee State (Ohio) University on Friday.

Bears 4, Big Blue 3: The UPike men jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking two of the three doubles matches.

The Big Blue took the win at No. 1, when senior Alessandro Perez and freshman Maksimilijan Lestaric picked up a 7-5 win over sophomores Haithenm Rabbouche and
Ahmed Hassairi.

But the Bears got the win at No. 2, with freshman
Rafael Gonzalez and senior
Alfonso Robinson taking down senior Said Santin and sophomore Prenav Sirivella 6-3, and at No. 3, as junior
Anton Hofmann and senior
Matthew Rodgers earned a 6-2 win over the team of junior Pablo Garcia and freshman Adam Greenberg.

The teams then split the singles matches. The men won at No. 3, where Hassairi beat Perez 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5, as Rodgers beat Sirivella6-1, 6-2, and No. 6, as Gonzalez moved past Garcia 6-1, 6-3.

Meanwhile, the Big Blue earned points with a win at No. 1 where Santin beat Rabbouche 6-1, 7-6 (5), No. 2, as Greenburg beat Robinson 6-4, 2-1 (the match was abbreviated after the Bears won the match), and No. 4, where Lestaric beat Hofmann 6-7, 6-2, 11-9.

Big Blue 6, Bears 1: Bluefield State won both doubles matches. Tereza Torroba and Ekin Ozmen beat
Natalia Geraldine Salinas and
Elizabeth Davis 6-0, while Kaylee Carr and Anna Filip won over
Teegan Carpenter and
Grace Clark 6-0.

UPike earned its only point at No. 1 singles, where Salinas beat Ozmen 6-7 (4), 2-6, 11-9.

Felip then beat Carpenter 6-0, 6-0, Torroba handled Davis 6-0, 6-0, and Raajitha Koganti knocked off Clark 6-0, 6-1.
