MONTREAT, N.C. – The University of Pikeville split a doubleheader at Montreat College on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers won the opener 15-2 while the Bears took the nightcap 11-3.

UPike is now 23-13 on the season and 13-11 in the AAC. The Bears will return to the field on Monday afternoon, playing their final non-conference games of the season when they host Bluefield State (W.Va.) University.

First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Paul Butcher Field.

Cavs 15, Bears 2, 5 innings: A 10-run second inning was the key to a win in the opener for Montreat.

UPike scored its only two runs in the fourth inning.
Rylee Carter singled to center and moved into scoring position on the play.
Claudia Maness followed with a double to left-center to score Carter, and she scored on a double to left-center by
Chloe Calton.

Chloy Creech had two hits each for the Bears to go with the safeties by Carter and Maness.

Bears 11, Cavs 3, 5 innings: UPike bounced back by jumping out to an 8-0 lead, scoring at least one run in all five trips to the plate.

Kaden Dunlap had two hits each. They both doubled and scored twice, while Dunlap had an RBI.

Dani Crum hit her second home run of the season, scoring two times and driving in two. She leads the Bears with 26 RBIs this season.

Payton Rice had a hit, scored and drove one in. Maness and catcher
Maddie Horn each had a hit and scored.

Chloe Bryant improved to 6-3, going the distance while striking out six. She scattered five hits.
