WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Pikeville began the conference weekend with a 10-9 win at Reinhardt University on Friday.

With the win, UPike improved to 25-14 on the season, 12-10 in the AAC. Reinhardt is now 18-25 overall, 10-12 in the league.

The Bears built a 10-5 lead in the fourth only to see it cut to a single run by the seventh before they blanked the Eagles in the last two innings.

Senior shortstop Frances Subero returned to the lineup for the first time in a week and made the most of it, going 2 for 4 with a double and a three-run homer, driving in four and scoring a run.

First baseman
Joe Gagnon was equally as good, hitting a grand slam homer in the first. It was his first of three runs scored on the day.

It was the second homer of the season for both Subero and Gagnon.

Designated hitter
Garren Gledhill had a double, driving in one and scored twice. Right fielder
Cole Fowler had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Outfielders
Riley Paulino and
Noah Brooks had a hit and scored a run each, catcher
Hayden Hollingsworth had a hit and third baseman
Mason Melton scored a run.

Isaac Berry picked up the win, throwing three innings of relief to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Cole Carmichael picked up his fifth save of the season after throwing the final two innings.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, wrapping up their series with the Eagles. The teams will play a doubleheader at noon.
