MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville tennis teams made a trip to east Tennessee on Thursday, playing against Milligan University.

The men lost to the Buffaloes 5-2, while the women fell 6-1.

The Bears will remain in Tennessee and compete on Saturday, visiting Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. Those matches are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

Men: The men lost the doubles point despite playing three very competitive matches. In No. 2 doubles, the team of freshman
Rafael Gonzalez and senior
Alfonso Robinson picked up a 6-1 win over Gonzaga Lafarga and Phil Schollhorn.

But the Buffs rallied with wins at No. 3, where Brayden Kennedy and Tomas Tenil edged senior
Matthew Rodgers and junior
Anton Hofmann 7-6 (5), and No. 1, when Michal Curlej and Martin Mercarder won over sophomores
Haithem Rabbouche and Ahmed Hassari, 7-6 (3).

In singles play, Curlej beat Robinson at No. 2 6-0, 6-1 and Schollhorn earned the win at No. 3 over Hassari by a score of 6-3, 6-2. The Buffs secured the win when Mercarder beat Hofmann 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

The Bears earned points at 5 and 6. Rogers beat Tenil 6-4, while Gonzalez edged Kennedy 7-6, 4-5, 7-0.

At No. 1 singles, Lafarga beat Rabbouche 6-3, 6-3.

Women: Milligan picked up the doubles point when Madison Berry and Melissa Duarte beat seniors
Natalia Geraldine Salinas and
Elizabeth Davis 6-1.

In singles play, the Bears earned their only point at No. 1 when Salinas got the win over Duarte 6-2, 6-3.

Elsewhere, Tara Stewart beat junior
Teegan Carpenter 6-4, 6-2; Trinity Fox downed Davis 6-0, 6-1; and Berry defeated freshman
Grace Clark 6-0, 6-0.
