UPLAND, Ind. - The University of Pikeville volleyball team opened play at the AMF Memorial Tournament in dominant fashion Friday, earning a pair of victories to finish the opening day 2-0.

The University of Pikeville volleyball team opened play at the AMF Memorial Tournament in dominant fashion Friday, sweeping Indiana University Southeast, 3-0.
The Bears controlled the match from the opening serve, posting set victories of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-13. Pikeville hit an impressive .434 as a team while limiting Indiana Southeast to a -.058 hitting percentage.
UPIKE wasted little time establishing its advantage in the opening set, racing out to an early lead before closing the frame with a 25-9 victory. The Bears continued to apply pressure in the second set, using a balanced offensive attack and strong serving to take a 2-0 match lead.
The third set followed a similar script as UPIKE jumped ahead early and never allowed the Grenadiers to mount a serious comeback, completing the sweep with another 25-13 victory.
Lanie Hawley led the Bears offensively with nine kills on 10 attacks, recording an outstanding .800 hitting percentage. She also added three service aces and two blocks for a team-high 13.5 points.
Allyah Tokelau paced the Bears with 11 kills while hitting .364, while Cassidy Rivas added eight kills on 19 attacks. JLynn Risner contributed five kills while hitting .556.
Chloie Brinton directed the UPIKE offense with 31 assists while adding 15 digs and two service aces. The Bears finished with nine aces and eight total blocks as a team.
Bears Take Down Huntington 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20)
UPIKE carried its momentum into the afternoon matchup with Huntington, taking the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores.
The Bears' offense continued to produce, hitting .250 in the opening set before posting a .414 hitting percentage in the second. Huntington responded in the third set, hitting .378 to take the frame 25-20 and force a fourth set.
UPIKE answered in the deciding set, hitting .382 while committing just three attack errors. The Bears closed out the match with a 25-20 victory to secure their second win of the day.
Allyah Tokelau paced the Bears attack with 17 kills while hitting an impressive .484. Hawley added 15 kills on 26 attacks while hitting .462 and also recorded four service aces, finishing with a team-high 19 points.
Cassidy Rivas contributed 13 kills, while Olivia Chapman added 10 kills while hitting .304. JLynn Risner finished with seven kills and a team-high 18 digs.
Brinton again guided the offense, recording 48 assists to go along with 18 digs and three service aces. UPIKE finished with 65 kills, 11 service aces and 10 total blocks in the four-set victory.
The Bears are back in action for day two of the AMF Tournament on Saturday, September 5 where they will play the host team, Taylor University at 10:30 AM.
