Two third-period touchdowns broke a tie and pushed No. 14 Campbellsville University past the University of Pikeville 27-14 on Saturday evening at the W.C. Hambley Athletics Complex.
 
The teams went to the half tied at 14. The Tigers scored the first two touchdowns, while the Bears matched them in the second quarter.
 
Neither team scored in the final frame, as the Tigers improved to 2-0 on the early season, while the Bears are now 1-1.
 
Despite the loss, the Bears got a huge game from junior linebacker Levi Evans. The Kingsport product had 12 tackles, nine of them solos. He added 1.5 tackles for loss and blocked a field goal.
 
The Tigers got on the scoreboard midway through the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Justyce Law scored on a 24-yard keeper. The score ended a seven-play, 81-yard drive, and when Colin Fratus kicked the extra point, the lead was 7-0 with 7:42 left in the first.
 
Law then found sophomore receiver Easton Barlow for a 60-yard touchdown with 11:20 to play in the first half to make the lead 14-0.
 
But before the break, UPike battled back to tie the score. Both touchdowns were scored on keepers by freshman quarterback Bryce Henson, who found pay dirt on scampers of six and eight yards.
 
Sophomore kicker Isaac Smith made both extra-points, and the teams went to the break even at 14-14.
 
With 10:24 left in the third quarter, Law hit sophomore Jaysean Pritchard from seven yards out for the go-ahead touchdown and the lead was 21-14.
 
On the final play of the third, Law scrambled 31 yards for what would prove to be the final score of the night. The extra-point was blocked by senior defensive back Dige Savage.
 
Two Bears' quarterbacks combined to go 15 for 28 for 155 yards. Henson threw for 131 yards on 10 of 21 passing. Senior receiver Deajuan McDougle led the wideouts with five catches covering 56 yards.
 
On the ground, the Bears finished with 107 yards on 26 carries. Junior Amon Williams led the way with 56 yards on 15 carries.
 
In addition to Evans' big night on defense, juniors Najmir Bellegarde and Quincy Clark had six tackles each. Clark's were all solos, and he also had a pass breakup. Bellegarde had four solos, including a sack.
 
Law finished 21 of 30 for 286 yards in the air and also led the way on the ground with 85 yards on 15 hauls.
 
Barlow caught three passes for 74 yards and a score.
 
UPike will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Andrew College. The opening kick is slated for 3 p.m. at the Hambley Athletics Complex.
