Box Score MONTGOMERY, W.Va. – WVU Tech stormed out to a 42-24 lead at the half and held off a rally to defeat the University of Pikeville 86-71 Saturday afternoon.
 
Pikeville (4-15) got as close as four, 52-48, in the early stages of the second half. The Bears got a tremendous effort off the bench from sophomore 
Anne Klee, who had a career-high 13 rebounds, and sophomore 
Kayla Stamper, who had 23 points to lead the team. Both played key roles in the rally.
 
But WVU Tech (6-13) held on, and, thanks to going 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the final 1:04, stretched an eight-point lead to 15 by the end.
 
Stamper, who added six rebounds, was joined by three teammates in double figures in the game. Sophomore 
Brogan Conley struggled from the field but finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She had five off the offensive glass, while Klee grabbed nine offensive misses to help the Bears to 23 offensive rebounds and a 53-47 advantage on the glass.
 
Freshman 
Sydni Wainscott finished with 13 points and four assists, while senior 
Jalisa Jones tossed in 11 and added six rebounds.
 
Tech was paced by junior Amy Gardner, who had a game-high 28 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the arc, and led her team with 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Nia Nolan scored 15 points and handed out 10 assists, while senior Alannah Begay made it five players with double-doubles in the game by scoring 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
Pikeville will be off for a week before visiting U.Va.-Wise on Saturday at 2 p.m. WVU Tech will visit Shawnee State on Thursday at 6 p.m.
