Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A missed layup to tie the game with just over five minutes to play in the first half proved to be too much for the young University of Pikeville women's basketball team on Thursday night.
Trailing 28-26, the Bears missed a layup with 5:20 left. Before halftime the deficit was 20 en route to a 93-48 loss to No. 21 Campbellsville University.
Campbellsville (17-9, 7-5 in the Mid-South Conference) shot 5.59 percent in the first half. Pikeville shot a very respectable 46.2 percent, but missed all five first-half three-point tries and allowed the Tigers eight more attempts.
For the game, Ginger Colvin's unit had 21 offensive rebounds en route to a 50-29 advantage on the glass, although no Tiger had more than seven caroms.
Sophomore
Brogan Conley led the Bears with 10 points in the loss. Freshmen
Christin Haney and
Brooke Coleman followed with eight apiece.
Freshman
Sydni Wainscott, who had five points, led the team with six rebounds and four assists.
Campbellsville was paced by three players off the bench in the scoring column. Junior Courtney Clifton led all scorers with 17, adding seven rebounds. Senior Megan Isaacs and freshman Lindey Young followed with 12 apiece, with sophomore Chelsea Craig adding 11.
Pikeville, 4-21, will remain on the road this Saturday, visiting St. Catharine College at 2 p.m. Campbellsville will remain at home, hosting U.Va.-Wise on Saturday at 2 p.m.
