PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A defensive battle between the University of Pikeville men's soccer team and Berea (Ky.) was eventually settled in the 74th minute as the Mountaineer's Million Beshah issued the lone goal in a 1-0 win on Friday at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
Berea improves to 6-9 with the win, while UPIKE drops to 4-10-1 on the season. Pikeville is back in action at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday at Georgetown (Ky.) in a pivotal Mid-South Conference matchup that will help decide the Bears' postseason chances.
Jesse Massucco issued the game-winning assist to Beshah who scored his goal on three shots, including two on goal. Shawn Ramos led Berea with four shots, placing two on frame as well. UPIKE goalkeeper

Pikeville's

Mateus Meira attempted four shots each, while only one of Meteus' was on goal. The Bears ended up outshooting the Mountaineers 15-14 and holding a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks in the loss.
Less than 30 seconds before the goal, Berea's Storie Ratcliff was shown a yellow card after a foul from behind the play on a goal-scoring chance. With the opportunity negated by the foul, the Bears managed just three more shots in the game.
UPIKE's best chance at a goal came on a 65th-minute penalty kick by Zavala. Elijah Spraul committed the foul in the box to set up the play, but Zavala's attempt hit off the crossbar.
Berea committed 19 fouls in the game, while UPIKE was whistled for just eight.
