Amis, Sammons Help Football Hold Off Belhaven 38-34

Box Score
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Trailing 27-24 in the third quarter, the University of Pikeville football team forced a Belhaven (Miss.) fumble at the three-yard line and converted it into a Jordan Amis touchdown run to help hold off the Blazers for a 38-34 win on Saturday at the Hambley Athletic Complex.

Desmond Davis forced the drop near the goal line and Josh Sammons scooped it up and took off for 79 yards before being caught at the Belhaven 18-yard line.

From there Amis tallied runs of five and two yards to get into the end zone and put the Bears (6-4, 2-3 MSC) in front 31-27 after Ryan Wilson's extra point. Two drives later A.J. Graham found Amis alone on the left side of the field for a 50-yard touchdown to go up 38-27.

Belhaven's (2-8, 0-4 MSC) Ian McGinnis threw a touchdown to Justin Kenyon 36 yards down the field to answer, but it would be the last score of the game as the Bears held on for the four-point win.

Graham went 12-of-21 for 234 yards and three touchdowns, while also finishing as UPIKE's leading rusher with 107 yards on six carries. Graham went untouched for a 66 yard gain in the first quarter to set up Marquis Terrell for the game's first touchdown on a two-yard gain.

The 66-yard run was the longest of the season for the Bears.

Amis finished with a team-high 128 yards receiving with two touchdowns and Terrell led UPIKE in rushing among running backs with 107 yards.

Kenyon put up 208 yards receiving with two touchdowns on 11 catches for the Blazers as McGinnis went 26-of-40 for 391 yards and four touchdowns. Belhaven outgained UPIKE for the game 546-490.

Avious Griffin caught the second touchdown of the game for the Bears in the first quarter to put them up 14-6. UPIKE led 24-20 at halftime after McGinnis threw a touchdown to Kenyon with just 30 seconds on the clock.
