GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Sydney Hall had six kills, a dig and a block, but in the end seventh-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) was too much for the University of Pikeville volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-13) win on Wednesday.
The Tigers took control of all three sets early, leading 7-2 in the first, 7-3 in the second and 9-2 in the third on their way to the shutout decision. Caraline Maher led the way for Georgetown with 16 kills and five digs for a .700 hitting percentage. As a team the Tigers hit .408 for the match.
Pikeville couldn't keep up with the Tigers' stellar pace, hitting 33 of 79 for -.038 percent on the attack.
Hall was one of two Bears hitting above the negative mark, going 6-for-14 for a .143 mark.
Sydney Morris helped orchestrate the UPIKE offense with 15 assists, while also coming up with four digs. Dominique Melvin was the defensive leader with seven digs.
Hall, Chelsea Staples and Katie Massie all finished with a block each for the Bears.
UPIKE never led at Georgetown, but tied the Tigers within the first five points of all three sets before they went on to leads as high as 15 points at 22-7 in the third set.
The Bears return to action at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at St. Catharine (Ky.).
