PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A second-half rally fell short Monday night as the University of Pikeville women's basketball team lost 91–83 to Shawnee State (Ohio) at the East Ky. Expo Center.

While UPIKE was able to benefit from the visitors' 24 turnovers, Shawnee State used its height advantage to outrebound Pikeville 47-37, including 27 boards on the offensive glass.

The most damage was done for Shawnee State by its senior guard duo of Alannah Sheets and Priscilla Santos. Santos finished with a game-high 26 points on top of her 11 rebounds to complete a double-double, while Sheets added 23 points and seven boards.

Tabby McKinney led all rebounders with 15 for Shawnee State.

For UPIKE, Cheyenne Madden led the offense with 18 points, while Khalilah Quigley and Callisha Johnson added 17 and 16 points, respectively, with Quigley snagging a team-best six rebounds. Kandice Porter added 12 points off the bench.

After trailing by 10 at halftime (46-36), the Bears from Pikeville, Ky., trimmed the deficit to four points in less than four minutes, outscoring Shawnee State 10-4 in that span. Ten-minutes later it was down to a single points after Madden's free throws made it 68-67.

But with 6:20 left to play, Shawnee State went on an 11-2 run to lead 79-68 and kept Pikeville from making any more runs to put the game away.

UPIKE (8-12, 3-6 MSC) returns to action on Thursday night at 6 p.m. ET, hosting Bluefield (Va.) at the East Ky. Expo Center. Shawnee State improves to an even 10-10 overall and 3-6 in league play.
