PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Already 1-0 on the season after a 91-85 win over West Virginia Tech on the road Thursday, the University of Pikeville women's basketball team is now ready for its home opener at Noon ET on Sunday against Midway at UPIKE Gym.

Midway also got its season started on the right foot as it beat a familiar opponent at home. Mid-South Conference member St. Catharine traveled to face the Eagles and lost 64-57. Me'Lisa Martinez paced Midway with 18 points, while Jasmine Johnson chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds.
At West Virginia Tech, the Bears got a big lift from Shakinah Gibson with 20 points and Kelah Eldridge with 19.
Following the Sunday meeting with Midway, UPIKE travels to Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday and Kentucky on Thursday for a pair of exhibitions.
