PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- After a two-year absence, seventh-seeded University of Pikeville is back in the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Championship, travelling to Lebanon, Tenn., for a first-round matchup with No. 2 -seed Cumberland at 3 p.m. ET on Friday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field,
The Bulldogs are providing live video on a pay-per-view basis for $5, while live stats are also available. Friday afternoon's winner advances to the semifinals next Thursday in Campbellsville, Ky., against either No. 3-seed St. Catharine or No. 6-seed Shawnee State (Ohio).
UPIKE lost to Cumberland (Tenn.) at home on Oct. 4 by just a 1-0 margin. Josh Armstrong finished a goal in the third minute and the teams played to a draw over the final 87 minutes. Diego Rivas finished with two saves as Cumberland led the game in total shots 8-4.
While the Bears have been outscored 31-10 overall this season, they are led by Mateus Meira with three goals and two assists and are coming off a 3-1 win over Georgetown and tied Shawnee State 0-0 in a recent MSC matchup on Oct. 22.
Cumberland won its last conference game 4-0 over Georgetown and lost a close 2-1 game at top-seeded Lindsey Wilson on Oct. 8. The Bulldogs are paced by Marty Owens with 10 goals and nine assists.
