PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A season with high hopes begins at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday for the 21st-ranked University of Pikeville men's tennis team, taking on NCAA Div. II Charleston (W. Va.) at the Chief Logan Lodge Recreation Center in Logan, W. Va.
This is the second straight season that the Bears have opened up against the Golden Eagles, winning 7-2 in 2013. UPIKE got its first test against outside competition last week at the preseason University of Charleston Invitational.
The Bears lost in the finals of the "A" doubles bracket and won the event in "B" doubles. Pikeville's Nos. 4 through 6 singles players won their flights against Ohio Dominican, the 47th ranked team in NCAA Div. II. There were eight NCAA Div. II teams at the event.
Among UPIKE's singles champions at the preseason invitational were fourth-seeded Pawel Tarasewica, fifth-seeded
Felix Singer and No. 6
Juan Manuel Reyes. The sixth-seeded Reyes won his championship in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
