HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Through two matches at the Hilton Head Springfest, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team is 0-2, falling 5-2 to both Albright (Pa.) and East Stroudsburg (Pa.).

The Bears have one match left at 1:45 p.m. ET on Friday. After the two losses, UPIKE drops to 1-4 overall, while Albright is 5-1 and East Stroudsburg is 5-2 on the season. Both programs are NCAA Div. III members.

Against Albright, the Bears were able to start off with a doubles win from Mounia Sami and Thais Bezerra 8-1 over Erin Sullivan and Katie Wolf. Bezerra also won 6-3, 3-6 (10-2) in the No. 2 singles spot against Brooke Ronney, but the rest of the match belonged to Albright.

Sami and Michaela Hyden lost at the No. 1 and 3 seeds, respectively, combined with three default losses by UPIKE at the bottom of the order.

The loss to East Stroudsburg was very similar, starting with another UPIKE doubles win by the same pair, 8-1 against Annie Vega and Taylor Presby. There were also two more singles wins for Pikeville as Sami topped Amina Dickson 6-0, 6-2 and Bezerra beat Allison Bean 6-0, 7-5..

But after taking the 2-0 lead, East Stroudsburg responded with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, followed by three more default losses in the bottom seeds to capture the win.
