WISE, Va. – The University of Pikeville women's tennis team grabbed a pair of wins at the top of the singles order, but the rest of the match belonged to UVa.-Wise with a 7-2 win on its home courts on Thursday at the Jim Humphreys Tennis Complex.
Mounia Sami provided the first UPIKE win with a 7-5, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles against Brianna Stallard, while
Thais Bezerra got the other win for the Bears at the No. 2 seed, topping Bailey Christoforato 6-7, 6-4, 11-9.
The other singles matches were handled by the Cavaliers in straight sets with third-seeded
Shae Criswell coming the closest for the Bears with a 6-3. 7-5 loss to Mary Jo Stallars.
UVa.-Wise swept the doubles points, winning 8-4 at the top seed and 8-3 at No. 2, while earning a default win at the No. 3 seed.
Pikeville is back in action at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, hosting Georgetown (Ky.) in the return to Mid-South Conference action.
