LEBANON, Tenn. – The sixth-seeded University of Pikeville women's basketball team knows what it needs to do to extend its season and it all starts at 9 p.m. ET on Friday against No. 3-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Championship.

It'll take three wins in three days to capture the MSC crown and earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship in Frankfort, Ky. To get there, the first step involves stealing a win from a Patriots team that has beaten the Bears in 11 of the last 12 meetings.

The last time the two teams met, the Patriots won 69-63 on the road in Pikeville, Ky., on Feb. 17. Before that the first matchup this season was played much differently with Cumberlands holding on for a 90-87 win at home.

UPIKE hasn't won a game in an MSC Championship since 2011, while the Patriots won the event in 2012. In the all-time series between the Bears and Patriots at the tournament the teams are tied 1-1.

The Bears are looking for a big performance from senior Callisha Johnson who was named First Team All-MSC prior to the championship. Johnson has led the Bears in scoring 18 times this season and has reached double figures 24 times.

Other MSC honorees included five Bears being named Academic All-MSC, including Brogan Conley, Kayla Day, Christin Haney, Khalilah Quigley and Brittany Swindall.

Friday night's winner advances to take on either No. 2-seed Georgetown (Ky.) or No. 7-seed Rio Grande (Ohio) at 9 p.m. on Saturday at Dallas Floyd Gymnasium.
