PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Make it a perfect 5-0 record at home in 2014 as the 21st-ranked University of Pikeville men's tennis team rocketed past Georgetown (Ky.) 8-1 on Wednesday at Bob Amos Park. Along with it being the home finale, it was also senior day for the Bears'
Sven Rodenbusch.
Rodenbusch made it one to remember, going 2-0 on the day with a doubles and singles win. He teamed with
Marcos Fondelius at the No. 2 spot to beat Chris Bartlett and Ryan Simms 8-3 before going on to win 7-5, 6-2 against Gustavo Echverria at the No. 1 singles position.
UPIKE led 3-0 after doubles play as top-seeded
Pawel Tarasewicz and
Dmitry Babenkov won 8-5 against Echeverria and Ryne Least, while third-seeded
Francois Billet and
Connor Smith completed the sweep with an 8-2 win against Jacob Loveland and Josh Clay.
Georgetown picked up its only win in the match at the No. 2 singles spot where Least got past Babenkov 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. The rest of the wins went to Pikeville in straight-set fashion. Billet topped Simms 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Fondelius routed Bartlett 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 and
Juan Manuel Reyes captured a 7-5 decision against Loveland at No. 5.
Brennan Alderman rounded out the UPIKE wins with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 hard-fought match against Clay.
The Bears' next action will come outside of the Mid-South Conference, traveling to Davis & Elkins on Friday in Elkins, W. Va.
