PIKEVILLE, Ky. – In its final home match of the season, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team lost to Georgetown (Ky.) 7-0 on Wednesday at Bob Amos Park.
The Tigers opened up with a 2-0 lead after doubles play as top-seeded Kaelin Roberts and Kelly Swanson got past
Mounia Sami and
Thais Bezerra 8-3. Jacqueline Otis and Natalie Hill finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-0 shutout of
Shae Criswell and
Kennedy King.
Criswell took a default loss at the No. 3 singles spot to put Georgetown up 3-0 and it went on to complete the win with four straight-set victories. UPIKE's No. 1 seed Sami put up the best fight, losing 6-2, 6-2 to Otis.
Bezerra lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 against Roberts, while King and
Michaela Hyden both lost 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively.
UPIKE moves on to a non-conference matchup on Friday with Davis & Elkins in Elkins, W. Va.
