PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- More than half of the matches got close at some point, but ultimately fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson came away with a 9-0 win against the University of Pikeville men's tennis team on Monday at Bob Amos Park.
None of the doubles matches were sure things for the Blue Raiders.
Top-seeded Francisco Charters and Edberg Espinoza beat Dmitry Babenkov and Marcos Fondelius 8-6, Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez topped Francois Billet and Pawel Tarasewicz 9-7 at No. 2 and Ignacio Huertas and Pablo Vilches completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Juan Reyes and Nico Rodenbusch.
The top two singles matches both had sets that went to a tiebreaker, starting with Espinoza getting past Billet 7-6 (5), 6-3. Porcic won 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Babenkov at No. 2. The rest of the singles matches went Lindsey Wilson's way in straight sets as well, with no Bear winning more than four games.
UPIKE returns to the courts at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday against Asbury at Bob Amos Park.
