PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Macarena Acuna earned a win at the No. 1 singles spot, but that was all the University of Pikeville women's tennis team could muster in an 8-1 loss to visiting Georgetown on Saturday at the Bob Amos Tennis Courts.
Acuna won easily, topping Shae Henry 6-2, 6-3, but that was where the good news ended for the Bears. The next best result was second-seeded Marine Kenel taking Kelly Swanson to a third-set tiebreaker before losing 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.
The top-seeded doubles pair of Acuna and Thais Bezerra also battled for UPIKE in an 8-5 loss to Henry and Swanson.
In the other contested singles match, third-seeded Bezerra lost to Natalie Fiepke 6-4, 6-1, while UPIKE's doubles pair of Kenel and Olivia Holbrook lost 8-1 to Fiepke and Emily Novak.
The Bears are back in action at 3 p.m. ET on Monday at Campbellsville.
