PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team came up short on the road, losing at Shawnee State 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears earned wins at the top two singles seeds and at No. 1 doubles, but fell behind with five default losses, including three in singles and the last two doubles spots.
Macarena Acuna and Thais Bezerra got UPIKE on the board first with an 8-1 win over Shelbie Wulfekamp and Brianna Boggs.
The teams played all the singles matches to an eight-game pro set due to inclement weather and moving the majority of the match to indoors.
Acuna won her match at the top seed 8-0 over Wulfekamp and Marine Kennel won 8-2 over Emily Waugh at No. 2.
UPIKE took its lone loss in played singles matches at the third seed where Bezerra lost to Nicole Harman 8-4.
